Untamed: A Call to Yourself

“Fake it ‘til you make it.” That was the advice from one of my mentors when I first moved to Arizona and found myself overwhelmed with having to start from scratch in a new space.

I took that advice and ran with it, but I lost myself along the way! I was holding so tightly to the advice by focusing on looking like I was making it – blending in, smiling when I didn’t feel like it, looking successful. All the while, I felt like an outsider. “Faking” became my focus over “making.”

A year ago, I realized I had even changed the way my name is pronounced to make it easier for others to pronounce. Such a seemingly small act was an abandonment of something that literally makes me ME. Once I acknowledged that I had lost – and very much missed – me, I made a commitment to let go of that old advice and to focus on finding my path in my way.

That is when the magic started happening. I attracted the right people into my life. I built a business that is purpose driven. Most importantly, I found, and fell in love with, myself!

The book, Untamed by Glennon Doyle, follows a similar path of self-revelation. Glennon digs very deep and shares with us her connection with her true self in a book that calls you to do the same.

I have never obsessed over a book the way I did with this one! I bought 10 copies and shared them with friends. Even as I am typing those words, I just ordered two more copies off Amazon to create a “time capsule” for both my girls to open in the future.

To say this book changed my life is an understatement.

My takeaways from Untamed:

  • Be YOU, love YOU, and care for YOU!
  • Continue evolving by nourishing your mind with inspiring discussions.
  • Give yourself permission to grow and roar; no one will ever grant you that.
  • Trust your instincts; your creator has granted you unique gifts to guide you and connect with you through it. Utilize them!
  • Let it burn! As you grow, you will lose friendships, shift beliefs, and switch perspectives; embrace all those changes fully otherwise you will not grow fully.
  • Set your own rules for the game. Set your own scorecard. Find your own field and play full in.

What the society demands is the fit thing to do, might not be the fit thing for you to prosper and live your fullest. My new take on “fake it ‘til you make it” is this:

Speak from your heart, even when your voice shakes. Tell your story like you’re the only one who can. Choose being true to yourself over all else.

With so much love,

Rana
